10 | Notizie | Rare Ferrari delights the connoisseur Mario Turri Former Ferrari Formula One driver Clay Regazzoni organizes a racing car show each year in his hometown of Lugano, Switzerland. Called Esposauto, it features competition cars, and always a good number of Ferraris are present. One surprising exhibit, however, was the 1956 Ferrari-Lancia D50 from the Biscaretti Museum in Torino, Italy. |
10 | Notizie | Year of Anniversaries continues Vincent Decroix Last year was Ferrari's 50th, and surprisingly, there were many other special milestones to celebrate, and this next one we forgot to mention. The Ferrari Club Belgio had its 25th Anniversary and the main celebration was at the Brussels Auto Retro Festival. Many excellent Ferraris were present including the 375 America, s/n 0317 AL, driven in the 1954 Rallye de Geneve, by de Mencick and Swaters! |
11 | Notizie | Major Model Exhibit announced Courtesy CMA "The Art of the Automobile Model" will be on exhibit at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center from May 10 through July 12. Included are over seventy highly detailed sports, racing, and classic car models, ranging in scales from 1:43rd to 1:3rd. |
11 | Notizie | Model Making taken one step futher Junichiro Hiramatsu A trend in recent years has been to put scale models of automobiles into actual scenes. Loosely themed dioramas, these displays aim for the same accuracy in the scene as found in the car model itself - historical veracity, scale, perspective, etc. The photo of one was sent by Junichiro Hiramatsu and it represents his Ferrari 250 GT SWB, s/n 2521 GT, as it was positioned during the 50th Anniversary celebration at the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome on May 31, 1997. |
11 | Notizie | Prices move up on mid-range models Courtesy Barrett-Jackson Auction The Barrett-Jackson Auction is now an extravaganza which attracts 115,000 spectators and 1,700 bidders, the latter group looking over 700 cars on the block. Several dozen of these were Ferraris and while no records were set, and no unique Ferraris were put up for bid, there was a general trend upward for many models. |
11 | Notizie | Collecting Passion becomes all consuming Junichiro Hiramatsu The Ferrari Museum of Art has always housed many great Ferraris, usually one example of each of the major types, but now Mr. Yoshiho Matsuda has concentrated his efforts on groups of Ferraris. Recently, he added to the collection a series II 1963 250 GTO, s/n 4675 GT. |
12 | Notizie | Famous restaurant inaugurates special year Courtesy Ristorante Lauro Last year may have been the Ferrari Factory's 50th Anniversary, but 1998 marks the 100th year of Enzo Ferrari's birth, and much more. It's the 40th year of the street Maserati GT, the 40th year of the Stanguellini Junior, and the 30th year of the Lamborghini Espada. The very famous Ristorante Lauro in Modena, long a favorite of Ferrari regulars, hosted a dinner recently to begin this Italian motor celebration, and the guests included many noteworthy individuals who had guided these very firms. |
12 | Notizie | Pininfarina Heir visits Florida Courtesy The Collection The Ferrari dealer in Miami and Coral Gables, Florida, The Collection, recently held a reception for Ing. Paolo Pininfarina, one of the sons of Sergio Pininfarina, and one of the men to be taking over the reins at the design firm when Sergio decides to retire. |
12 | Notizie | Spy photos from around the world Jeroen de Boer Long time member of the Ferrari Club Nederland, Jeroen de Boer, and contributor to the Club magazine, Gli Amici della Ferrari, was in Brunei recently on holiday and spotted two special bodied Ferraris, one in blue and this one in deep red. The Sultan of Brunei is a major collector of Ferraris, and it can be assumed these are his. |
14 | Feature | Cavallino Classic VII - A Party Marc Sonnery Marc Sonnery, David Brady, Jerry Wyszatycki Blessed by now traditional perfect Florida weather, the seventh edition saw record numbers of attendees and Ferraris. This year was the occasion to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Testa Rossa and no less than seven of various types were gathered in Palm Beach from across the U.S. A return to track days at Moroso Motorsports Park started off the event on Wednesday, January the 28th, with a private instruction day for twelve pupils and their Ferraris. |
24 | Feature | A Resilient Rossellini Coupé Part One on the detailed restoration of this very unusual Ferrari 375 MM coupé Alan Boe Courtesy Antoine Prunet, Courtesy Pete Lovely Racing The Ferrari 375 MM, s/n 0402 AM, in its reincarnation as a coupé by Scaglietti in 1956, after once having been a Pinin Farina Spider. How it came to be is a mystery, as is the stylist of this exercise. Many elements are pure Ferrari - the nose and hood, the emerging pontoon fender, and the curved tail - while others were never seen again - the tight greenhouse, and the overlarge and slatted side vent. Overal it was a pleasing design, made for a special customer, Roberto Rossellini. |
28 | Feature | Bertone's Beauty An appreciation of Ferrari 250 GT SWB, s/n 3269 GT Alan Boe Alan Boe, J.P. Caron Built on a standard 1962 short wheelbase type 539 chassis and powered by a standard 250 GT twelve cylinder type 1689 engine, Bertone's latest interpretation of the Ferrari berlinetta burst on the scene in March of 1962 on the coachbuilder's stand at the Geneva Salon. Finished in deep blue, with burgundy leather seats and gray carpeting, the car's interior also featured daimond patter black vinyl covering the transmission tunnel with plain black vinyl on the parcel shelf and dashboard top. |
36 | Feature | California Prototipo The high watermark in sports car design was achieved in the sublime California series Mark Wallach, George Carrick, Stan Nowak, David Seibert, Angelo Tito Anselmi Mark Wallach The prototype California was characterized by its very elegant simplicity, seen at its best here in the front, a simple ovoid grill outline with no driving lights or other adornment, thin bumper had no bumperettes or lights, and the covering over the headlamps was devoid of chrome trim. |
43 | Corse | Rolex Daytona 24 Hours David Brady It was a wonderful sight! A Ferrari crossing the finish line in first position at Daytona, not seen since 1967. Ferrari did not contest the race seriously in the intervening years, and only with the advent of the F333 SP in recent years has their been a dedicated assault. There were several close calls in the past few years, but in 1998 the MomoCorse Team made it happen. |
46 | Corse | The Ferrari F300 is aimed squarely at the title FIA Formula One Championship Marc Sonnery Ferrari SpA As the wraps come off Ferrari's 1998 F1 challenger during the customary spectacular presentation ceremony in early January, there was a noticeable difference in the speeches. While hundreds of attending journalist and two million "internetians" gazed at the all new F300, the talk of transitional years had melted away and the Ferrari President Luca de Montezemolo, team supremo Jean Todt and all other team members, spoke along one firm line: there is only one precise goal for 1998: winning the World Championship. |
49 | Corse | New on-site wind tunnel unveiled Ferrari Spa Along with the launch of the Ferrari F300 in January, Ferrari chose at the same time to present its new, and long-awaited, wind tunnel. Designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, the tunnel now allows Ferrari to simulate completely, both the real situations that Formula One cars encounter on various racing circuits, and the similar situations that production cars encounter on the road. |
